A Memoir From Me

The Basketball court was usual enough
There were balls scattered around, The basketball hoop standing,
The familiar lines on the ground, Laughter resonating through the wind
                                                     And the sound of dribbling.

My friends and I did what kids do.
We ran across the court, We shared our joy,
                                                  Gained new skills every second
And memories were implanted in our heads as we shot countless hoops.
                                                       Doing Nothing Important.

Zones: Athletics

Yesterday, the 3rd of November 2014 was when the Athletic Zones were held. 25 children from our School were chosen to represent Sacred Heart. It was decided at Hilmorton High who would go to Ashburton for the Canterbury's. It was a hot day, which makes people sweat even harder. Last year, a few people got to go to Ashburton, but this year there was an influx of talented children from Sacred Heart who were nominated to go. They got ranks varying from First place to third place.

The first event was a Relay, in which one of our groups happily claimed First place and a trip to Ashburton to represent our zone AND Sacred Heart.

Jasli Benevice won second place at High Jump.
Joshua Dela Cruz won second place at long jump and third place in Discus.
Mart Dosdos won second place at High Jump.
Jayda Siyakurima won first place in Discus and third place in Shot-put.
Charlotte Haughey came first in 60m Sprints and Long Jump.
Annabel Williams claimed second place in High Jump.
Rommel Manuel claimed second place in Long Jump.
Phoebe Premacio won second place in Long Jump.
Madelin Robinson claimed second place in 50m sprints.

We haven't gotten the results yet and we are not yet sure if there are any more from our school who are participating.

Everyone who went to the Zones did a good job in representing Sacred Heart. We wish all the people heading for Ashburton good luck.

Term 3 Day 2

Today, Room 6 is engrossed in the Commonwealth Games. We have been searching for individual countries in the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Games are Also called the 'Friendly Games', because of the countries' good sportsmanship. The Commonwealth games started at 1930 and it occurs every 4 years. The Commonwealth games were discontinued at 1942 and 1946 because of the World War 2.

Our Class is making a map on the floor with laminated flash cards. The flash cards show the country and their names. It is also helping us to learn how to use a map.

"It's amazing how many little countries we didn't know about." -Mrs. Williams

"It is really hard to find the countries, because there are many countries that you don't know of." -Phoebe

"This is fun to do, knowing where some of the countries are." -Levi

How? We laid out a few flash cards with the Commonwealth countries. And the fact that we did this quite co-operatively is a mystery. Normally we would cause a larger ruckus, yet we are working as a team.

When? The Commonwealth start at the 24th of July 2014.

I think everyone has taken a big opportunity to learn more about the Commonwealth Countries and The Commonwealth Games. Everyone has participated in our 'map art' and it was quite fun.

Our class is also writing reports of the Commonwealth Countries. Everyone in our class had their share of fun and knowledge. Even if it was a cloudy, humid day, it didn't stop us from learning about the Commonwealth games.

Where? The Commonwealth games are going to be held in Glassgow.

Who? Room 6 Of course!

Why? To learn about the Commonwealth Games and the countries participating.

What? The Commonwealth Games is our main topic of the day.

Thank you for taking your time, browsing the photos and reading this report.

Roving Reporter of the Day,

Raziel.

Tom Gates A Tiny Bit Lucky

Bookopoly

Last week we started a reading game called Bookopoly. Our class let out a deafening cheer and we all took turns rolling the dice.
The book I am reading  is by. L. Pichon,  A Tiny Bit Lucky Narrated by Tom Gates. It had some beguiling jokes in it and I had to refrain myself from chuckling at silent reading time.

It's about this little boy, Tom, who was on his way to the audition for the Band Battle competition He was trying to lead his band, The Dogzombies, to Victory. But he had a Mum bugging him for new 'sensible' shoes, he had his Oh-So-Annoying Sister (Delia), he had June's cat scuttling around and Parents stopping him to watch his favourite TV show, The Crazy Fruit Bunch. There was also a School Inspector and he had caught Tom doodling with string. But, the School Inspector was also a Judge in the Band Battle. In the end, they didn't get to compete but it was still quite an experience for 12 year old children.

I think the Author has made the story quite detailed and fairly simple enough to understand. He also put enough diagrams and Illustration in the story. The Author ended it with Joe making his Mum proud by completing his Reading diary (But tom signs it). It was a good story and it had a few lessons about Luck.

The popcorn blast

We started off with 537 popcorn kernels. 60 popcorn kernels didn't pop on the oil. We turned the element on medium heat and added our kernels in. We also added some oil and watched patiently as our kernels popped. It took about 5 minutes for it to start popping though.

We learnt that inside the hull of the kernel, there is some starch and a droplet of water. Nevertheless, we carried on with our procedure. The pot started vibrating, indicating that the popping was off to a good start. We moved the pot around eagerly waiting for all of the kernels to pop. After around 2-3 minutes, we turned off the heat and took the pot off the element. It was served on some paper towels. It was fun doing this with Finn, Mya, Harikoa and Tyler.

Cats

A few students from Scared Heart earned the opportunity to watch a musical theatre, called 'Cats'. The play was full of cats and cats and more cats! The play started off with a cheerful song with cats dancing and leaping around. Throughout the play, all the cats were singing. One of the cats narrated the story by singing. A few cats were quite acrobatic and they told us more about cats. Jellicle cats, Curious cats, Glamour cats, and much more.

Since it was a musical, there were tons of singing. It was a remarkable play, and I didn't imagine high school students performing a hard play.  It looks like the students practised a lot of gymnastics and they obviously put a lot of hard work in to this theatre. They probably practised so much, they weren't afraid of anything going wrong. The cats were energetic and there were a few surprising notes in the composed music. It made some people smile and flinch.

I would thank the kind people who gave us these tickets a million times over. There were some cats that sang like people in an opera. They hit the high pitch notes beautifully. They proved that the saying 'practice makes perfect' is right. The spotlights were at people who are doing solos. They did a few tricks. Overall, the musical theatre was fantastic and breathtaking.

My adventure

A mantis's story

Shiiiing!

Goes my sharp blades as it chops a fly in half. I grab both pieces as I munch my way through whilst rapidly slicing any other huge parts that won't fit my mouth. I let out a small burp and walked across the grassy area chopping long strands of grass. My hands felt weird as if it was bleeding, which was impossible. I tramp through a slippery bridge before a giant shadow was looming over me. I look up and I saw a millions of green gates with my compound eyes. I almost bump into one before I knew it, I was under all the gates. Some giant footsteps made the earth rumble as I scramble to my feet almost losing balance as I realised I was out of there.

I crawl up some steps but I noticed I wasn't walking side to side. I was walking STRAIGHT!! That's probably IMPOSSIBLE for me. I saw a fly and tip toed over to catch it. I stretched my arms but excruciating pain washed over me and before I knew it, I was lying down, rolling over while shouting screams of pain.

"Hey can you hear that? It sounds like a cricket!" "No. That's just nothing. TAG! You're it."

I got over the pain and  I just walked and walked. I was lifted of the ground and near a fly. I was on something transparent and the human clutch was off. I was looking at millions of people right now. I shrieked and my stomach grumbled. I saw a fly and crept closer to it. It flew way and I sighed.

Suddenly, what felt like waves of water, started splasing on my face and I coughed any necessary water out. More water went and slowly dropped on me, effectively pushing me downwards. A burst of air blew me to the side. My energy was gone. Gravity pulled me down and I was washed away by the water. The wind was whistling while it was blowing me away with water.

My life slipped out and everything was cold and pitch black.

100 word challenge

The rainy day

Dark grey clouds covered the sky making a gloomy atmosphere to everyone around. Cold droplets of water started dripping in synchronization. I trudged across the street, the wind almost knocked me over by the intensity of it's strength then icy water was splashed to my face. I finally reach my home feeling worn out from the weather. Unwelcome leaves burst into my house leaving me speechless. I landed on my couch on a daze. The feeling of cold liquid never leaving my body. The water rose to my neck.

The dripping of water was the last thing I heard.

Cinderella....?

We all trudged amongst the playground not expecting what was going to happen. We all sat on our seats and we waited quietly. A pretty looking girl was just beside a snobby looking woman. Well, Not yet though. Their names were Isabella and Claudia. Claudia somewhat wanted to marry Isabella's father and wanted Isabella to say it to him because she was 'shy'.

After The father and Isabella talked about it, Claudia let out an evil laugh. I quickly figured out the story.

Cinderella.

Two girls (Which actually looks like boys...) went out and started to act like spoiled. Their names were Claudette and Claudine the Stepmother's children. It did not take us a while to know that Claudia and Isabella's Father were married. Claudette and Claudine try to get Isabella's cupcake as Claudia and Isabella's Father come in, Isabella gave the cupcake and shoved it into Claudette's face. The parents saw and put Cinderella into kitchen work. Isabella's father left the room and Isabella went to the kitchen. Claudia, Claudette and Claudine now laughed evilly.

The story went on with Isabella having a new friend named Callum and they were both dirty and dressed in rags. It was finally the Royal Ball which Isabella really want to go to. She sighed as Claudia and Claudette tease her yet again. Claudia went in then started barking out errands to Isabella. They now called her Cinderella and Claudia demanded no one to call her Isabella any more.

Cinderella was left to sweep the floors until a person in a cloak told her. "I shall grant you a wish."
"Cinderella thought she was dreaming yet, She told her she wanted to go to the ball. The person told her what to do and Cinderella chanted to a magic tree in their backyard.

Meanwhile, at the Ball....

The sisters keep on fighting over who shall marry the 'handsome and dashing' prince. At last, Teh prince came who did not want to dance which resulted to people chasing him. Cinderella arrived in a beautiful maroon dress, a tiara and black doll shoes. The king pronounced her as 'Princess faraway' and the prince only wanted to dance with her. Before it struck midnight, She left. The prince wanted to have 3 Royal balls to capture her heart. She went to each one but at the last one, she left one of her shoes.

At the kitchen....

Cinderella kept on blabbering to Callum about the prince. The prince went to the kitchen and said "Whoever fits this shoe shall be my bride!!" Claudette and Claudine tried it and they failed. Cinderella tried it and it fit perfectly. But she said She does not want to marry him and held Callum's hands. Prince didn't want to force her so he just made her be with Callum.

Callum and Isabella didn't stay at the Kitchen anymore and Claudia said sorry to Isabella and Claudette  and Claudine were forced to the kitchen.

After that, the story has ended and they danced for us. People asked them questions and they said it was time for them to go.

Willow went up to them and said "We would like to thank you for presenting this play to us. My favourite part was all of it. And we would like to show our appreciation by clapping."

Everyone clapped at them and we all left the hall.

A Moment in Time: A day on the beach

I trudged along the shore feeling excited as we all whizzed through the water. The freezing cold water splashed around and gave me goosebumps. Whilst shivering, I went deeper. Suddenly, clear blue waves started pushing and shoving me. They grew larger each second. A huge wave swallowed me as I took a mouthful of disgusting salty water.

I scrambled to my feet and stood up. I felt the cold sensation leave my shivering body. I slowly marched to the soft, warm sand. I was speechless, breathless even. I watch the others who were laughing and playing as I lay down and made myself warm by burying myself in the hot sand.

Cycle safe training

When the Christchurch city council came, we started to get pumped up for biking. We went to the courts for practice. We started doing left turns where you have to do a kerb ride out first then you start to bike. To do a kerb ride out, you need to raise your right hand then look over your right shoulder.

If you want to turn left, look over your right shoulder then raise your left hand (left signal) If you want to turn right, look over your right shoulder then raise your right hand (right signal). If you are in the road, you have to turn right to go in the middle of the road.
But, you have to look over your right shoulder before doing so. This is called a life saver look. When you are in the middle, you turn right. If you are nearing a stop, you have to look over your right shoulder and after that, you raise your right hand and bend your elbow. This one is called a stop sign. My favourite activity is when we turned right. First you bike then do a right signal then do a life saver look. Then we turn then do the stop sign.

-Raziel

My favourite is the left turn when you wait for 3 seconds and then turn on a different road .

-Kaitlyn

My teacher for cycle safety is named Yasmin. Yasmin was a nice, funny woman who has a ( no offense ) funny accent. She taught our group the kerb ride out, the right and left turn, and the life saver look. I didn't pass the cycle safety test for I kept on crashing on the left turn. It was also my first time biking.

-Raziel

My teacher was named uh I dunno.... But He was funny even if I didn't pass the test. He taught us the kerb ride out, the right turn and left turn, and the life saver look.

The Dead Tree

The tree stood there, lifeless and still under the gloomy sky. The howling wind swayed the branches violently and the brown leaves began to fall.

Then the roaring of a chainsaw could be heard over everything in the area. The blade made contact with one of its fragile branches and it began to fall. It landed with a soft thud on the ground. The roaring of the chainsaw continued as it began to make its way through the branches. One by one, the branches began to fall.

The blade began to cut through the trunk with a loud screech. It plummeted into the earth and began to roll into the green blades of grass.

The Fire Dragon

It was another busy day in school, Natalie Dragneel went to their cloakroom and got her stuff. She studied and studied. Her school was called 'Fairy academy'. Her school was filled with heroes who have magic powers that people can rely on.

"We are having a major test for all the subjects." It was announced on the speaker phone. Her classmates said "awwwww" while she smiled. She completed the test in a mere 5 minutes with her friend Lily Redfox. The bell rang so it was lunchtime. She sat with Lily and Jane Fernandez. Gary Fullbuster sat with them, Gabriel Redfox too ( Lily's brother ). The bell rang meaning that it was lunchtime. "Sup ice king." Said Natalie to Gary while lighting her hands with flames. "Hmph. Fire girl." Said Gary while putting a fist in his palm. "Iron fist of the fire-" Natalie said while Gary said "Ice make: L-" but they both got cut of by their friend, Jane. "I'm sensing fighting here." said Jane while summoning a sword. Natalie and Gary held each other's shoulders and Gary said "We're not fighting. We're friends." "Aye!!!" Said Natalie. "Good" said Jane. They all started to eat their lunch.

Lunch was over while the others did the test. Lily and Natalie read. Jane, Gary and Gabriel was finished. Then the bell rang. She walked down apple street, and watched the news. The reporter said "A lot of people are dying from hypothermia here in Antarctica. The people here are called 'Eskimos'. The Eskimos don't know how to light a flame. We news reporters don't really bring matches anywhere we go. So, we need the help of the fire dragon." Natalie asked her parents, Natsu and Lucy if she can fly to Antarctica with her fellow companion, Sky Natalie's parents said yes.

Sky is the daughter of Happy and Carla. Happy is Natsu's companion while Carla is Wendy's companion. Sky, Natalie's sky blue cat said "Aye!". Happy, Carla, and Sky are magical creatures called exceeds. They have wings that make them look like angels. Natalie twirled around and she saw dancing flames all over her. After she twirled, she had a fiery red dress that has burning embers spread around it. Her mask was a burning orange colour. Her pink hair was tied in burning pigtails and her hands were covered in red and orange flames. You can see her club mark which looks like a fairy with a tail, in her shoulders. She was wearing red dress shoes. All about her was fire-proof. She has magic that can make her fly and attack using flames.

Natalie said "Sky, let's go!" While Sky said "Aye!". As they reached their destination, Ambulances and helicopters were  heard all over the place. The news reporter greeted her "Good afternoon Fire dragon." And Natalie said good morning back. Natalie told Sky to fly and bring back wood. And in a mere minute, Sky came back with 5 logs and sticks in her arms. Sky put the logs down on the cold, snowy ground. Natalie rubbed her hands and flames were dancing around it. With her two hands, Natalie made a cylinder and aimed at the wood logs. She puffed up her cheeks and exclaimed "Roar of the fire dragon!" Then flames went out of her mouth and gone straight to the logs. The logs burned and Natalie said "These flames will last for eternity so you can each get a stick and bring it to your igloos. Don't worry, your igloos won't melt". They said "Thank you so much! We owe you one!" "I will now leave. Sky, let's go!" Natalie said. "Aye!!" Said Sky.

The hero and her companion went back to their hometown, Magnolia. They were greeted by Natalie's friends. The Iron dragons ( Lily and Gabriel ), Titania ( Jane ) and Blizzard ( Gary ). They have a small team. Their team name is called Team Natalie. They work at a school club named Fairy Tail. They were all wearing their hero suits. Gary said "Oi Flame Brain! Africa needs help." Natalie replied "Yeah Yeah Ice block. Let's go!" And with that, they zoomed to Africa.

To be continued...
